This is a white-glazed yuzamashi crafted by Yukiko Saito, a potter and Chinese tea artist at Sigetsu Kiln. A yuzamashi is a vessel used to cool hot water when brewing sencha or other teas. The generous and soft shape, characteristic of Saito’s work, is created using a kick wheel, and the rich texture of the glaze combined with its calm color tone is the charm of this piece. It can also be used as a tea pitcher (chaihai) or a single-spout vessel for Chinese or Taiwanese tea.
