This is an Izushiyaki white porcelain sencha-tea pot (hohin). Izushi ware is a historic white porcelain vessel made in the town of Izushi, Hyogo Prefecture, and has been produced since the discovery of the raw material in the Edo period (1603-1868) in Kakita, Izushi Town.
A hohin is a unique Japanese teapot without a handle, characterized by a tea strainer hole drilled directly into the body and a beak-like spout. The shape is simple and modern, and the surface is decorated with a hand-carved chrysanthemum pattern, one of the characteristics of Izushi ware tea utensils, and the carved part is unglazed to create a textural contrast.
This kyusu is designed for sencha green tea, so it has a moderate capacity compared to gyokuro green tea, making it suitable for daily enjoyment. Sencha bowls and Yuzamashi (hot water pitcher) from the same collection are also available. Why not enjoy a special tea time with these fresh and elegant white porcelain tea utensils?
